Wedding Colors
I love LOVE love purple. All shades of it. And now there's a wedding coming up where the bride wants to have purple too. Oooh..
Well, not all purples are the same and not all work together. I am going to try to help come up with a few palettes that the bride can choose from (and stick to once she picks one!!). These are just ideas and suggestions. It's not the exact items that are important, but the color and FEELING of the images that are. The "boards" below can continue to grow and change over time. Ready? Okay, here we go.
First up is a grape/berry/gold palette. Rich purple shades that will pair well with the colors of the Harvard Club that you see here:
Shades of deep fuschia to pink with little shots of a fresh green in the flowers would be beautiful. The goal for the bouquet is to "pop" off the deeper tones of the bridesmaids' dresses. Delicate gold jewelry that doesn't compete with the rich colors, and/or bold jewels in the same tones will look fabulous. Bolder lip color in berry tones and softer browns to champagne colors on eyes. Little bit of gold shimmer.
The colors in the room can overlap with shades varying from cranberry to maroon and violet to lavender, keeping away from the blue tones and more toward the red ones. Gold to add a little sparkle to the tables in candle holders, chargers, picture frames, possibly some birdcages and vases.
Second up is more of a monochromatic option in softer tones that will not compete with the colors in the room. Shades of pewter, silvery lavender, and soft mauve tones with hints of amethyst,navy and and a little spring green round this out. Imagine the tables with a navy runner under silver cachepot filled with flowers that have some fruit for added interest and color. Silver candle holders, chargers add a little classic sparkle, and soft gold to antique brass tones also work well. Consider slipcovering chairs to a lighter color.
The dresses are soft and elegant in tone and the makeup is complementary- more dramatic on the eyes with a lighter shade of natural pink/beige/mauve on lips. Shoes can be silver to pewter.

Another idea is more of a lilac/periwinkle/blue palette. Again, the dresses are a little softer in color, allowing the flowers to really show. Lots of variations in the bouquets ranging from indigo to light lilac, again with pops of green, and possibly some turquoise to peacock green (not shown). The bridal bouquet having lots of ivory mixed in with the blues and purples. Table linens in a medium shade with a lighter complimentary color in the napkins.
Jewels in several shades all work together. Shoes can be a shade lighter or darker than the dresses, but matching exactly is a no-no (too prom-like). Cheeks should have a hint of pink blush (in the right tone for the girl, of course) and natural lips will look pretty with soft purple tones on the eyes.

The other presentations are just as beautiful but without knowing what time of year, can't make a definite decision.

Question: What time of year is this wedding?
ReplyDeleteI live number 1 and number 2 but too me it would depend on the time of year. I think #2 is more of a spring feel to it while number 2 since the colors pop more are good for winter and summer (for different reasons).
Oops. Forgot to add the wedding is on August of 2011.
